Insprirations
I miss my muse, I hope she’s ok, I pray her dreams come true.
A friend sent me this site of a family’s blog. Normally family blog’s are of what I consider “snaps” but the photographer really knows how to compose the frame and make use of terrific lighting.
A few months ago I had a problem with my battery for my D300 so I sent an email out to my friends to see if they had a D200 which uses the same battery. To my surprise all of them near me used Canons! It was very difficult to find Nikon users anyway.
Today, I discovered on the very popular Digital Photography Review just how much more popular Canon are. The list below does include point and shoot cameras. If I were to buy a compact camera then I would choose Canons.
I review the stunning 70-200mm F2.8 AF-S VR lens. It’s big, it’s clever and it’s fast but there is one situation where I would wouldn’t consider taking it with me

I missed a fantastic shot over the weekend. I saw someone else’s photo and it is a winner. Now, I’ve got some great photos in my collection but that’s not the point, I missed one great shot and I feel annoyed, very annoyed in fact. I don’t want just some great photos, I want ALL the great photos. When I see an opportunity I want to get it but I totally missed it; instead I got OTHER great shots.
Some of you may not understand my obsession, but getting 99% of the great photos isn’t good enough, it has to 100% or I won’t be happy.
There’s nothing I can do about it now, I’ll learn from it, figure out what I could have done and use it in practise next time…
I give a review of how the Apple Mac Pro performs when I stress it using Photoshop and Lightroom.
Pause gig at King’s Head
Pause are a rock band with a distictive sound, very enjoyable to photograph and Matt (the lighting engineer) really put on a great show around them. Claire Batchelor, who performed solo ealier, also supported Pause as a backing singer and guitar. The real character for me was the drummer, he was just legendary and really played up to the camera; his personality really came through and some of the shots just cracked me up!!
With a soft and gentle presence Claire manages to capture the audience with beautiful clarify in her voice and exquisite guitar playing.
Claire was the first act on so the natural light was still dominating the courtyard; it was overcast which was perfect as the organizer Stuart Robb had arranged for a lighting engineer to be there. I cannot say enough just how amazing Matt from PRG.COM was in his lighting. Claire was lit beautifully with soft blue lights, warm yellows. I had minor difficulties in finding the right white balance; after a quick chat to Matt I discovered his lights were using different bulbs hence different temperatures.
Saturday was one just one of those days when multiple events happen to be booked on one day; photoshoot 3 music acts, a neighbours BBQ and for most of the day a 24 hour fundraising badminton session. I took my trusty Nikon along to document the event as well as taking part. Although there are no photos of me actually playing I was on the courts quite a bit!! Honest!
As well as the games itself, there were things to entertain the kids such as video games, fancy dress and a raffle! I seem to remember one adult winning all the chocolate.
[update] The rest of the photos are removed due to requests.
